Wise Mind Open Mind

I’ve taken a look back at the self-help I’ve read. Excluding business and excluding instructional stuff I’ve consumed a fair amount. It’s about a dozen over the last six + years, which puts me at a solid two per year. It seems like I should be doing a lot more improving and a lot less sliding back into bad habits with that type of volume.

Sidewalk Chalk at the Graze Volume Three release party at Intuit (last night). See, I told you I’d be seeing more live music this year.

Leave Me Midnight – My Gold Mask

This Chicago-based band was written up in Chicago Magazine and I noticed that the female lead is a “lifelong Iron Maiden fan,” so I immediately bought the album. That’s all I really need to validate a band, but My Gold Mask has something else going for them, they’re based in my neighborhood, for now at least.

More Awesome Food From DeLux

20130419-194104.jpg

DeLux can do no wrong in my mind. Great burgers, great appetizers, and even great pizza. This is the arugula, prosciutto, Parmesan, and truffle oil pizza. It’s great by any measure.

A Red Death

Easy Rawlins (Ezekiel to you) is just a guy in LA trying to make a better life for himself in Watts during the 1950s. He “came across” $10,000 in the first book and invested it in a few rental properties. He’s making a decent living. That cain’t last though.

British Lion – Steve Harris

I had some free XM Radio for a week in February and I couldn’t keep the dial off Ozzy’s Boneyard (XM 38). My musical tastes have some range dammit, I’m serious. But in the end 70s heavy metal and 80s hair metal are my favorites. I need me some Iron Maiden, Ozzy, and Dio. I don’t think it’s nostalgia that drives it either. I just like it.

[aside] Maui Trip Review

I’ve tagged all the Maui stuff with vacation-Maui. Click it and you get snippets of all posts in reverse chrono. All the pictures are in this Flickr set. Here are food posts: O’o Farms, Grandma’s, Coffee, Day Four, Day Three, Day Two, Day One. Here are miscellaneous pictures/videos: Honolua Bay, Guidebook, Waves, Surfer, and Lahaina. It was a laid-back six days.

Lucila’s Homemade

20130327-214643.jpg

File this under something you need to try. It’s a South American alfajor by Lucila’s Homemade that I picked up at Big Shoulders Coffee Shop. Just try it. I may eventually force you to anyway, because I’ll probably get you some for your next big occasion as a gift.

[aside] This Coverage Of Tigergate Makes Me Feel Embarrassed For My Sport

It’s hard to explain my feelings in the midst of this Tigergate coverage. Golf has never felt more like the sport of boring, intolerant, old, white men, especially in contrast to the raucous fun of the Ryder Cup only six months ago. Playership will continue to shrink as this demo becomes a smaller proportion of society. I fear the game does not have a bright future unless we figure out a way to uncomplicate it and inject more fun. I’m going to begin working on the manifesto to carry our game into the future, look for a 2013 release.

DeLux Redux – Appetizer

20130326-231959.jpg

I don’t know how to use this word “redux,” but I’m giving it a shot while I dive in to some quality bar food. In fact, I’m going to highlight one of the most consistently pleasurable bar experiences I have. I’m not sure that you can get a more complete package than DeLux at 669 N. Milwaukee. The place always comes through.
