DeLux Redux – Appetizer

20130326-231959.jpg

I don’t know how to use this word “redux,” but I’m giving it a shot while I dive in to some quality bar food. In fact, I’m going to highlight one of the most consistently pleasurable bar experiences I have. I’m not sure that you can get a more complete package than DeLux at 669 N. Milwaukee. The place always comes through.

Farm Lunch Tour At O’o Farms

20130409-181256.jpg

This is the outdoor dining structure at O’o Farms in upcountry Maui. For $50 per person you get a tour, a chef-prepared lunch, and unlimited coffee and chocolate truffles. It’s probably the best $50 we spent all week.

Upcountry Breakfast At Grandma’s Coffee Shop

20130408-210747.jpg

Okay, maybe this food tourism is getting a little out of hand. But, we needed breakfast, so why not go out of the way a little and go to a place where we can linger? And linger we did, because we had a few hours to kill before our farm lunch tour.

Coffee At O’o Farm

I participated in the cycle of coffee today. This gives me some insight into how much goes in to a cup of coffee and will make me savor every cup from now until I die.

Maui Day Three In Food

20130406-165345.jpg

After a stressful but beautiful drive along the tight, little traveled roads of northwest Maui, we continued on to Paia and stopped at the Paia Fish Market. It was quite a scene. There was a line to the door about 30 seconds after it opened at 11am on this beautiful Saturday.

Maui Day Two in Food

20130406-053809.jpg

Star Noodle in Lahaina was the star of the day. Gail and I agree that it will be tough to top this. Clockwise, we went with the Hot ‘n Sour, Pad Thai, Bikini Blonde, and Malasadas. Great experience.

Maui Day One In Food

20130404-194408.jpg

Our first full day in Maui was a decent food day. We stayed pretty local, got a great lead on a farm lunch outing, and wrapped it up with wine and cheese on the balcony.

Spy Line

In smack-dab in the middle of this nine volume set and wondering where things are going to go. I’m also wondering who says “smack-dab” any more, and whether it should be hyphenated or not. Wouldn’t you know it, it was the middle of this book that provided the pivot point for this epic story, almost structurally in the middle.

Dixie City Jam

I really want to go to New Orleans. I’ve been through it a few times, but haven’t really explored things. James Lee Burke, through the observations of his main character Dave Robicheaux, paints a picture of New Orleans that is at times unflattering, but ultimately makes it appear to be a great place to visit.
