This was a complicated little crime novel. I bet I get lost in about one out of ten crime novels. By lost I mean confused. I was so confused that it made the big reveal in this novel a little strange. I felt like I was being spoon fed without any clues and that makes me feel dumb. It also disappointments me because it takes away from the novel.
Sunset Valley
Sunset Valley in Highland Park is one of the most stable and reliable courses in my rota. It never knocks my socks off, but it never disappoints. I play it at least once a year yet I’ve only taken four pictures of it despite the fact that I marvel at it’s simple beauty every time I play it.
Star Trek Into Darkness
I’m a sucker for Big Sci-fi with the word star in it. Gimme some Star Wars or some Star Trek, and I’m going to be amenable for checking it out. In terms of movies containing magic/make believe, that’s my sweet spot.
Harborside Port
Weekday golf in Chicago is a rarity for me. The proximity of Harborside drew me in though. I got down there with friends for some midweek twilight ($50 after 3:00) this week. That’s the time to go – no traffic on the way down, no waiting on the course, no waiting on the way back. I’m talking barely over five hours, round trip from the city.

This local group is cool. I liked their first album a lot. Chirp Radio has some good content and I need to remember to go there occasionally.
The Perfect Cappuccino
This is a documentary about coffee and some other stuff, mostly other stuff. That’s good, because the other stuff is a little more heartfelt. Not only do you learn about making cappuccinos, but you gain some insight into coffee culture and learn a little bit about an iconic American company that may leave a bad taste in your mouth, literally and figuratively.
Crosby’s Kitchen
The baseline breakfast for me is two eggs over easy, hash browns, sausage, and an extra starch. That extra starch could be something as simple as toast or as complicated as blueberry pancakes. I mix the eggs and hash browns to make a chunky breakfast slurry and attempt to parse the meat so that I can consume all three in every bite. The extra starch gets consumed at the end in any number of ways.

I’m assuming this will never break because it seems a university would like to keep this around, at least in text form. The full text of the speech is at the More… link.

[via Daring Fireball] This will be pretty thought-provoking, or at least thought-reinforcing. UPDATE: Link is broken because the David Foster Wallace Literary Trust is claiming infringement. I’m damn glad I got to see it before it was yanked. I was just cleaning out my saved Google Reader items this morning and I hit the link to check it out. I’ll post a link to the text of it soon.
Gail had an appointment near tourist central so I met her for lunch. Like I’m apt to do, I cross-referenced my places to eat list with Chicago’s Gold Coast and came up with Da Lobsta, which I heard about via Steve Dolinsky’s Twitter a few months ago.
