I love Len Deighton, but I’m taking a break from him for a while. I probably won’t read him again until 2015. This book kind of didn’t meet expectations and I need to burn through my backlog of other authors. My expectations are so high because of the Bernard Samson series, which was really difficult to match in terms of action and characters.
The premise of this book is cool. The Germans win WW2 and are occupying London and the top homicide detective in Scotland Yard is caught between the Germans and the English resistance. There is action, intrigue, and some romance. It was a fun book but didn’t really sink in. The ending felt a little abrupt also, but I may have just misread the messages.
I need to stop buying books and start reading books. Action!
