Busch Stadium was packed for a Friday night matchup against a very good Texas Rangers team. Lyons from St. Louis didn’t have good stuff and left in the second after allowing four runs. It was 4-4 at the end of two but the Rangers scored two on the 9th to win 6-4. We sat in a right field box for an Axa event and had a great time at Mike Shannon’s before.

Glen Hansard at Pritzker Pavillion
Glen Hansard played for free in downtown and it was packed. There was no room on the lawn but the open seating in the Pavillion was decent, although a little obstructed. We heard from friends that Hansard’s musical Once is amazing. We need to see it.
We made a trip to University of Chicago and Robie House as part of our “tourist-in-our-own-city” weekend. While wandering around I was stunned by the size and beauty of Rockefeller Chapel. I was also stunned by the passion and enthusiasm of our Robie House tour guide, Arlene. What a great Saturday. I need to come back with me mum for the in-depth Robie House tour.
It’s been a year and a lot of burgers since I’ve had an Edzo’s burger and I still thinks it’s the best. It’s a lot closer in my mind though, especially after having a burger at The Lockdown. It seems like Edzo’s changed their bun sometime in the last year – the bottom bun is a little spongier than I recall. I’ll have to monitor.
Ham and Cheddar Scone from Big Shoulders
The ham and cheddar scone from Big Shoulders (via Cheap Tart) is only one of many reasons to frequent this great coffee shop/roastery. I usually don’t do savory scones, but now I’m baffled as to why. This is a game changer.
Coffee Obsession As Mid-Life Crisis
Sidewalk Chalk
Sidewalk Chalk at the Graze Volume Three release party at Intuit (last night). See, I told you I’d be seeing more live music this year.
More Awesome Food From DeLux
DeLux can do no wrong in my mind. Great burgers, great appetizers, and even great pizza. This is the arugula, prosciutto, Parmesan, and truffle oil pizza. It’s great by any measure.
We scrambled down the rocks and had a great view of the couple dozen surfers at Honolua Bay today. Gail talked to a surfer man who said it was probably one of the last days for good waves on this part of the island. This same surfer told Gail, “It’s a gentleman’s sport” and that the snorkeling on the other side of the bay is killer.
Solid Maui Guidebook
We used Maui Revealed the last time we were here but this time some friends loaned us the Lonely Planet guidebook (which included personalized, analog annotations). I’m not here to assess which one was better, but we loved the Lonely Planet. It was accurate, well-organized, and insightful. Thanks Mike and Linda.
