Winnetka

I love the Winnetka muni course. It’s difficult, well conditioned, and seems to have early Saturday tee times available pretty often. We teed off at 5:47am on Saturday ($67 with cart) and got around in 3:15. That’s blazing, which is good, but the the two eights I posted were bad. In the end I barely broke 90. Two bad rounds in a row doesn’t make a slump does it?

I didn’t take any pictures because it was a dreary morning. It rained on the way out and rained on the way back downtown, but not a drop on the course. We must be living right. Here are some pics I posted on Flickr in the past. It has a lot of pretty holes and it’s close to downtown. I live a mile north of downtown and Winnetka is only a mile further than Harborside, which is about as close as you can get.

It really has a nice set of finishing holes from the Blacks, which I think are tougher than the handicap ratings belie. The dogleg left par five 15th has a tight driving area and a small pond guarding the green, which makes it feel longer than 501 yards. The slight dogleg right par four 16th plays 402 yards and is made tougher with a pack of trees and a small lake guarding the driving area. The par three 17th is a driver hole for me. It’s 223 yards with a bunker in front of most of the green so you can’t roll anything up. The 18th is a great finishing hole, it measures 441 yards and is the longest par four on the course. It starts on a nice, elevated tee and ends on slightly elevated green. I’m usually taking a wood or long iron into it, so a par is a rarity for me.

Great course. Here’s my scorecard:
