It was a horrible, rainy, slushy, cold night but Gail was on a mission to hit Eataly figuring the crowds would be light. She was right. The quality/variety combo may not be able to be matched unless you compare it to something like the food courts at Harrod’s or Selfridge’s in London. It was my first experience with razor clams and a Nutella bar.

Blackhawks vs Stars
I go to about one hockey game annually and always wonder why I don’t attend more. I’m only a fair weather hockey fan but it’s getting more ingrained in my psyche. Unfortunately the Blackhawks lost 4-3, but it was an exciting game with a Blackhawks comeback from a 3-0 deficit and a fun pull-the-goalie ending. My pics aren’t great, but at least I got a good shot of a fight (above). We were in the lower bowl in section 113 I think, above the glass.
Bears vs Lions
Beautiful November day for the battle for the division lead between Bears and Lions. Bears lost, but it was a close, exciting game. Bears had a ton of chances. Cutler got hurt and down by eight, McCown took the Bears down the field in the last few minutes for a score but couldn’t convert on the two-point play. Tough one.

Elly’s Pancake House Mundelein
Just a little post-golf breakfast on the way back from Countryside on a beautiful 4th of July. Two eggs are really four small eggs at Elly’s Pancake House Mundelein, but it’s really not that confusing. The sausage patties are huge and the hash browns nice and brown. The line may look daunting and the parking lot may be full, but they churn people through quickly while retaining solid service.
Shrimp and Grits from Little Goat
I had a client on the GA/SC border and I remember the first time I had shrimp and grits. It sounded like such a weird combo but low country folk toss it around like we in the north say steak and potatoes. Little Goat paid tribute to shrimp and grits beautifully, they dressed it up with asparagus and braised pistachio. The abundant grits are hidden underneath the broth and made for an awesome breakfast.
